CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As Corpus Christi continues to grow, so do our schools.

Monday was the official groundbreaking of Creekside Elementary, the newest addition to the Corpus Christi Independent School District.

CCISD superintendent Roland Hernandez said the $37 million school will fit 1,000 students from Pre-K through 5th grade.

Construction is made possible through the Bond 2020 project that was approved by voters.

School officials are excited to see the school district expanding.

"It's very gratifying," said CCISD board president Janie Bell. "It's very exciting that we're able to provide this for our community and for our students. It's very exciting and we're super thankful for the community that continues to support CCISD."

Creekside Elementary will be built at 8112 Starry Rd. near Yorktown.

It's expected to be complete by August 2023.
