CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Humidity has been on the rise in South Texas, courtesy of high pressure that is to our east and anchored in the Gulf of Mexico. With an approaching storm system to our west, we'll continue to have elevated winds through much of the week.

Yesterday, we topped out at 34 mph at Corpus Christi International Airport with temperatures in the upper 70s.

On that note, our trend of warm and above normal temperatures will continue today to start the week with an afternoon high of 79 and partly cloudy skies. Winds will be out of the southeast around 15-25 mph with gusts approaching 35-40 mph.

Tonight, the winds will stay a bit elevated around 10-15 mph and we'll have partly cloudy skies. That will keep temperatures from dropping too much and we'll bottom out around 62.

More warm temperatures and windy conditions will stay with us Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday looks to be the windiest day with sustained winds around 20-30 mph with gusts approaching 50 mph at times. We'll also see the potential for a few sprinkles and/or light showers each day, but given the high winds, most of that activity will be shoved north.

The Pacific cold front will arrive late Wednesday night and into early Thursday morning with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers for much of South Texas. Some locations could pick up half an inch of rain or more under the more moderate shower activity.

Cooler air will then filter in for the New Year holiday with highs on Thursday only in the 50s and New Year's Day in the mid-60s. Forecast models are having a tough time determining just how cold temperatures will drop in the overnight hours, but for now, expect upper 30s to low 40s from Thursday morning through the weekend to begin the days.

Have a great day!
