CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Arctic cold will encase the northern half of the U.S. while South Texas continues to bask in comparative warmth through Tuesday.

However, long-range models indicate a much colder regime by late week for the Coastal Bend, with good rain chances and even potential icy weather by the end of the week.

A weak cold front tonight will sweep low clouds from the area, but southerly winds quickly return and allow gradual warming through Tuesday.

The next cold front has more upper-level support, so when it arrives early Wednesday it will bring more lasting cold as well as a good chance for showers.

Rain chances persist Thursday, and after a brief break from the rain, Arctic air sweeps into the region at the end of the week.

Overrunning will generate the potential for icy conditions by Friday night and Saturday.

We will keep you informed about this possible wintry weather scenario in the coming days, as there is considerable disagreement in the atmospheric models.

But for now, you can expect highs in the 60s and 70s, dipping to the 50s Friday and 40s on Saturday. Lows will be in the 50s and 60s before plunging into the 30s and 20s Thursday through Saturday of next week.
