Heat advisories likely for the weekend

Posted
and last updated

After a rough night for parts of the Coastal Bend last night with severe storms moving through, especially up in Refugio County and down in Kleberg County in and around Kingsville, we have really cleared out and high pressure is finally taking a more dominant role in our weather pattern.

High pressure will be almost directly overhead going into the weekend that is going to promote a lot of subsidence in the atmosphere and the result will be scorching hot temperatures with highs at or near 100 degrees in Corpus Christi and ranging from 100-108 for inland areas.  Given that humidity will be high too, heat indices will range from 110-118+ and the National Weather Service will likely issue heat advisories each day.  Use caution and stay cool!

Tonight will be much calmer compared to last night with lows in the mid to upper 70s and light and variable winds.

Saturday will sunny, humid and very hot with a high of 99 and east-southeasterly winds of 7-14 MPH. Not much change for Sunday with full sunshine and a bit hotter with a high of 100 in the forecast.  Again keep in mind that the heat index temperature will ride about 10-20 degrees hotter than the actual temperature.

Beginning Monday, the high will retrograde back west and allow a weak frontal boundary to enter South Texas.  This feature won’t have much “cool” air, but it will be drier.  So beginning next week it’ll still be hot, in fact near seasonal, but it won’t be quite as humid.  The boundary will eventually stall over the region and result in some isolated showers, especially on Tuesday, as it interacts with the daytime heating and seabreeze.  Highs for much of next week will range in the low to mid 90s with overnight lows in the low to mid 70s.

Have a great weekend!
