Some sun & milder temperatures on New Year’s Eve

and last updated

This weekend has been very dreary, dismal and chilly with overcast skies and below normal temperatures ruling over South Texas.

An upper-level disturbance to our west will pass through the north parts of the state late tonight and early tomorrow and will provide us a westerly component to the wind and help us clear out some for New Year’s Eve and give us some hints of sunshine and milder temperatures.

It won’t last long though as another round of cooler temperatures will make their way into the area early Tuesday morning and that will bring the clouds and some drizzle back into the region.

Tonight will be mainly cloudy with some spotty drizzle inland and temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s.  Winds: WNW 7-14 MPH

New Year’s Eve will feature a few more areas of sunshine as we clear temporarily from the west along with mild temperatures in the 60s.  Winds: WNW 5-10 MPH

Midnight NYE, going into New Year’s Day, temperatures will be in the upper 40s to low 50s with light and variable winds and partly cloudy skies.  Not looking bad at all.   Most of the light showers and drizzle should remain offshore.

Late Tuesday and into Wednesday the mist and drizzle will increase again and all the way through Wednesday afternoon will be cloudy, dreary and chilly with highs struggling to escape the upper 40s again.

A reinforcing shot of high pressure moves in early Thursday and this one has some more cool air and this will also clear us out with plenty of sunshine for the rest of the week and into the weekend as temperatures warm up each day through next Sunday beginning on Friday.

Happy New Year and be safe!
