We’ll be keeping a close eye on the radar tonight and early morning tomorrow as a strong upper-level storm system moves through the northern part of the state and the associated cold front arrives here around 5-8AM in the Coastal Bend.

There is a likely chance of some severe weather in the Hill Country, just north of San Antonio and in east Texas late tonight through early morning tomorrow.  If you have travel plans to those locations, may want to wait till the early afternoon hours.  There are Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Watches that have been posted by the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

Here in the Coastal Bend, we will be on the very tail end of all the activity.  Our northern counties are under a marginal risk of severe weather and that includes locations such as Three River, George West, Beeville, Woodsboro and Refugio.  Some of these locations could see a quick thunderstorm move by with some strong winds and small hail.  For the rest of us, we are under a general risk of some thunderstorm activity.  There is a chance that our southern locations miss out on some of the rain completely.

By Thursday afternoon, drier air will filter in and the sunshine will return to the area and highs will still reach the mid to upper 70s.  Dewpoints will fall to the 40s and 50s, versus being in the 60s and 70s.

The cooler air behind this entire system will not arrive until a reinforcing front pushes south early Saturday.  This will drop temperatures into the 50s for the most part and clouds will return with light rain and drizzle staying with us right through New Year’s Eve.  Lows will fall into the 40 Sunday through Wednesday of next week.

For now, the countdown into 2019 looks chilly with temperatures in the 40s, mainly cloudy skies and a few spots of some light mist and drizzle.
