Warm Christmas wishes South Texas and Happy Holidays!  This Christmas Day has been a warm, cloudy and breezy one with afternoon highs getting close to 80 degrees!  The winds have been on the breezy side with the strongest gust recorded out at the airport at 31MPH from the southeast.

We are watching another strong upper-level storm system dig down the Rockies and that will set up for some big time wind for our Wednesday.

Tonight will be mild, muggy and breezy with a few spots of drizzle as well.  Lows will only drop to the middle to upper 60s.  Winds: SE 10-20MPH

For Wednesday the wind will be the main story with sustained wind values around 20-30MPH and gusts approaching 40+MPH.  In addition, temperatures will stay on the warm side and a few stray showers possible.

As the upper-level storm system moves closer from the west, the associated surface cold front will push into North Texas late Wednesday night and into early Thursday morning.  A round of some severe weather will be possible around the Hill Country and extending into East Texas by the early morning hours on Thursday.

Here in the Coastal Bend, we will be on the tail end of the activity with a slight chance of some severe weather for our northern counties.  Heavy rain and strong wind will be the primary factors we’ll be keeping an eye on.  Otherwise, the front will slide through the area by 10AM and we’ll begin to clear things out and the sun will return by the early afternoon.

In fact, Thursday afternoon and Friday look very nice with highs still in the mid to low 70s.

Another front will move through on Saturday and this will bring a dose of cooler temperatures just in time to bring in 2019.  Sunday and Monday look chilly, damp and overall miserable because the winds will be on the gusty side and the light rain will make roads damp.  Highs will drop into the 50s.  New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day will feature cloudy skies, some drizzle tapering off some and temperatures near the middle 40s.
