More rainfall in the forecast

and last updated

Even though we had a lot less rainfall in the Coastal Bend in the area today, it remained unseasonably chilly with highs mainly in the middle 50s.  Officially out at Corpus Christi International Airport, we registered about 6-hundredths of an inch of rain.  With similar values inland, this was good news for the residents out in Alice to give them a chance to dry out after received nearly 4.5 inches of rainfall yesterday afternoon.

Cloud coverage tonight will keep the cool air insulated on the surface so overnight lows will fall to the low 50s with some patches of light mist and drizzle.  Winds: NNW 9-18MPH.

Wednesday will be very similar to this afternoon with overcast skies and slightly milder high temperatures in the lower 60s.  There will be periods of light to moderate showers near the coastline working inland.  Winds: NNE 10-20 MPH

We’ll see a few disturbance moves in from the Gulf for Thursday and Friday and that will do a couple of things.  The first will be milder temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s for highs.  The next thing it will do is bring in more showers and thundershowers, a bit heavier in nature, which will start along the coast and work their way inland.  At this time, heavier rainfall totals are forecast for the coast with lesser values for our western communities.  Average amounts of 1-3 inches over the next several days will be possible.  Some locations will see locally heavier amounts that may cause some localized flash flooding.

This pattern will continue into the weekend and early next week as another surge of high pressure comes into the area.  We’ll be on the extreme tail-end of a passing frontal boundary.  That’ll take temperatures down a couple of degrees on Monday, highs still around 70, and keep scattered showers in the forecast with plenty of clouds.

Overall, there’s not much sunshine or hot temperatures to look forward to in the coming days.  We should be averaging a high of 85 for this time of year!
