Katia Reports: St. James Episcopal blankets community with its holiday warmth

and last updated

The Kinder class at St. James Episcopal School has been making blankets for 15+ during the holiday season.

During this time of the year they focus on giving rather than receiving.

Blankets have been donated to different non-profit organization thru the years.

Four years ago, SJES Scholars began donating their hand made blankets to the Oncology patients at Driscoll Children’s Hospital after 3-year-old classmate Alondra Vela was diagnosed with leukemia. She is now in remission.

Another classmate, 7-year-old Kanon Brown, also was diagnosed with leukemia at 3, but now only visits the hospital for check-ups.

Last year, Kanon Brown was an oncology patient at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. He says having a blanket while fighting cancer is a nice feeling.

Kanon and Alondra received the blankets and they, along with their parents, took them to Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

Alondra and Kanon are both survivors!
