ALICE, Texas — One of the most incredible feats in all of golf took place yesterday at the Alice Municipal Golf Course.

If you have ever played the game, you know how difficult making a hole-in-one can be.

Ernie Rios, 72, of Three Rivers, had the kind of day golfers dream about. He made golf look very easy with two holes-in-one during the same round.

That’s right - two in one round – we’ve never heard of such a thing.

Rios had four witnesses.

The odds of this feat happening were 67 million to one.

I had to go meet this miracle golfer, so this afternoon. we got together at the Alice course. We went to one of the holes he had aced and believe it or not, he almost made another hole-in-one.

As for yesterday, Rios actually didn't even know he had made either of his holes-in-one until his fellow players found his golf ball in the cup.

“I hit towards the pin and everybody said good shot,” Rios said. “But Robert Gonzales said I think you hit in the hole and I said ‘no way.’ I thought maybe my golf ball went over the green but they found it in the hole,

“I got really excited and I told them I was playing a Pro-V one with four blue dots around the number and that was it. And it happened again on hole number two because they knew what kind of ball I was hitting.”

The importance of his achievement didn’t hit Rios until he was traveling home from the golf course.

“It didn’t really set in until I got halfway back to Three Rivers and the guys were more excited than me, I think. You don't see a hole-in-one too often and I had never made one before. I have been playing for more than 50 years and two make two in one round was pretty amazing. I came close a few times but never a hole-in-one.”

There's his scorecard and you can see the two aces circled. It was simply amazing.

So congratulations to 72-year-old Ernie Rios. It was a day he will never ever forget.
