The New York Times is reporting that the Cleveland Indians have decided to change its team mascot.
The Indians have come under fire for years -- decades, even -- with accusations of its team name being racist being leveled.
The Indians aren’t the only professional sports team name to elicit this reaction. The former Washington Redskins also recently changed their name, and are currently known as the Washington Football Team.
The Times reports that the intent to change Cleveland’s team name could be announced as soon as this week.
