ODEM, Texas — It’s a big day of celebration in Odem today.

The Odem-Edroy Independent School District announced the plans to renovate Owl Stadium this past April and they are expecting construction to be done in time for the upcoming 2021 football season.

Official ground breaking ceremonies took place Monday night. The 2.9 million dollar project will include new artificial turf which will replace the natural grass surface. Owl stadium will also get new lights, new bleachers and a brand new expanded press box. The project also includes improvements to the all weather track.

The school district felt like now was perfect timing for the project. "The renovations mean a lot because we are at the intersection of academics that we took care of facilities and now we get to have some fun," said Odem-Edroy Superintendent Yolanda Carr. "we have come a long way financially and now it's time spend our money on our kids,"

The players are really excited because Owl Stadium is a getting a complete makeover. "Ever since seventh grade we were always wondering when would Odem get turf?" said Owls running back Marcus Martinez. "we saw other schools around us getting turf and finally the school board has allowed us so we are very estatic and our dreams of playing on turf are finally coming true."

It will be a spectacular looking facility that is long overdue. It will be a stadium Odem fans will be very proud of for many years to come.
