GEORGETOWN, Texas — Midlothian Heritage scored four goals in the first 17 minutes and cruised to a 6-0 victory over Calallen in the UIL’s Class 4A state championship game.
Jaguars freshman Jules Burrows scored three goals to lead a Midlothian attack that dominated from the start of the game.
The victory denied the hopes of the Lady Cats (23-2) bringing home the first state soccer state championship in Coastal Bend history. It also snapped their 20-game winning streak.
Calallen goalie Laramie Miller was busy from the start, making two big saves in the early moments before Burrows scored first in the seventh minute.
Kerry Scott added another goal for the Jaguars (27-1) less than a minute later to boost the lead to 2-0.
Burrows scored again in the 10th minute to push Midlothian lead to 3-0.
Rachel Allen provided the fourth Midlothian goal in the 17th minute of the first half on a 35-foot strike.
Burrows added her third goal in the 53rd minute to finish the scoring.
The Jaguars added a clinching goal with 5 minutes left to finish the scoring.
The Ladycats’ improved later in the game, but couldn’t mount an offensive attack resulting in a score.
Heritage dominated play with 14 shots and five corner kicks in the first half alone.
Coach Sarah Pipkin-Love’s Calallen team had a memorable season as they advanced on the deepest march in the program’s history. The previous best run came when Calallen advanced to the 2006 regional semifinals.
Midlothian Heritage stretched its winning streak to 16 games in their 19th shutout victory of the season. The Jaguars outscored opponents in the playoffs by a combined 36-1 margin as they claimed their second state championship in the last four seasons.
