We all know that sports at their root, are just games. winning and losing may be how success is viewed, but at Corpus Christi ISD, they are teaching their students the sports is more than just wins and losses.

The school district has began the Two Words Program. A 36-week program, various sports teams from around the entire district are being taught valuable skills for both on and off the field.

“I’ve always said in all my years of coaching that I’m not just coaching volleyball, it’s the ball I use to teach these lessons,”Ray High School Head Volleyball Coach Jamye Linebarger said.

The ultimate goal for the program is to give the student athletes the lessons they will need to use as the head to college and onward. Assistant Athletic Director, Jane Kieschnick knows how important these lessons are at this point in these students’ lives.

“We want to see them grow as individuals and see that they can handle the stresses of life,” Kischnick said.

The program is voluntary for the teams, but a lot of the district’s teams have already signed up.
