Veterans Memorial counting on its experience going into Saturday's game

Veterans Memorial has an interesting advantage over San Antonio Southwest.

There are so many intangibles that go into winning big playoff games, but perhaps the biggest edge Vets Memorial has over Southwest is postseason experience.

The Eagles have reached the third round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year, which means many of the seniors already have played in nine playoff games.

It's hard to beat big game experience when it comes to handling pressure.

"We have been here and we know what it's like to have a lot of pressure on our backs," said Eagles defensive back Joseph Meador

"We understand, it's win or go home," said Eagles defensive end Daylan Pena. "So each day at practice, we come out and understand that this could be our last practice."

"We have a really good group of seniors who understand what playoff football is all about," said Eagles head coach Cody Simper. "When you look over the course of the past three years most of the seniors have played an entire additional season of football at a high level."

The Eagles play the Dragons at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at San Antonio's Heroes Stadium. Veterans Memorial is 12-0, while Southwest is riding a six-game win streak after losing their first six games.

KRIS 6 Sports will have complete game coverage during Saturday's 6 & 10 newscasts.
