CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Gregory-Portland head football coach/athletic director Rick Rhoades will leave his position with the district at the end of the school next spring.

The district has announced that Rhoades plans to retire as of June 30, 2021. He was hired by the district in 2016 and notched his 150th career victory earlier this season during a tenure that spanned 36 seasons and 17 seasons as a head coach.

Rhoades came into the Gregory-Portland area with much previous success including seven previous trips to the state championship during his coaching history at state powers like Cameron Yoe and New Braunfels.

But he missed the postseason for the last five seasons with the Wildcats, who were 3-6 in 2020.

The district has advertised for the position on its website.
