CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial athletic coordinator and head football coach Cody Simper has been named as the new head football coach at Cypress Woods.
Simper confirmed that he will be leaving the Eagles program in a text message for the Houston-area school in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. He plans to leave the Corpus Christi school in March.
Simper compiled an 80-38 record during an 11-season stint at Veterans Memorial and Ray. His Veterans team made its deepest run in the playoffs in school history during the 2020 campaign as it advanced to the state semifinals.
He arrived at Ray in 2010 and transferred to Vets in 2015 as the Eagles' original head coach when the program started. His record there was 50-14.
"Coach Simper built an outstanding athletics program and football team from the ground up," Corpus Christi Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez said. "We are grateful for his positive impact on the Eagles staff, students and school community. We wish him and his family the very best."
