CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Southland Conference, home of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, will be shrinking this upcoming summer.
Four of the teams in the conference will be departing to join the Western Athletic Conference in July.
Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian and Sam Houston State will be joining the conference in time for the 2021-2022 academic year and plan on joining the conference for football in the fall of 2022.
According to the conference, the new 13-team conference will be divided into two divisions for team sports other than football, men's basketball and women's basketball.
