Head coach Ryan Cruthers is leaving to take a job with Robert Morris University, where he will serve as an assistant coach.
Cruthers did great things for the IceRays, leading them to the playoffs last season. We wish him the very best at his new job.
The team didn't have to look far to find his replacement, promoting assistant coach Al Rooney to the top slot.
Rooney joined the IceRays staff in January, bringing a wealth of coaching experience to the Coastal Bend.
Rooney is a former goaltender for eight seasons in the Central Hockey League.
The IceRays will open their main camp Thursday in Michigan, with 160 players attempting to make their 30-man roster.
