The Corpus Christi Hooks will play their season opener Thursday night when they hook up with the Amarillo Sod Poodles at Whataburger Field.
We made it out there this afternoon, and wow, check out the field! It looks absolutely perfect, as always.
So green and well manicured. And definitely ready for opening day.
We’ll see some new faces on Thursday night, including Corpus Christi’s catcher Chuckie Robinson.
A 21st round draft pick out of Southern Mississippi three years ago, Robinson is ready to make a name for himself here in Corpus Christi.
“That was a good experience to do that for the fans who showed up on a cold night,” Robinson said. “Just kind of taking you through that at bat, they were throwing me a lot of sliders and I just kind of sat on that pitch and I got that pitch and took advantage of it.”
Defensively and offensively, Robinson says he’s is improving.
“I think I call a pretty good game and I like to throw runners out so hopefully, I can control the running game a lot this year as I have in the past,” he said. “And on offense, I think I bring some power to the table so hopefully I can get some balls up and out of here this year.”
We are only two days away from the start of the season.
