School district closing for cleaning after confirmed meningitis case

After a confirmed case of meningitis was made public last week, a local school district is going to deep clean their district.

Jim Hogg County Independent School District (JHCISD) made the announcement Sunday, Feb 9.

"This statement is a continuation of our ongoing efforts to keep the community informed of our path forward," JHCISD said. "Immediately after my statement yesterday, we secured a professional commercial service that aids business and schools in the eradication of harmful viral and bacterial threats."

The statement they are referring to is regarding a student who has a confirmed case of meningitis.

"We are notifying parents and guardians of the Jim Hogg County ISD that there is a student with a confirmed case of meningitis. The district will follow all protocols and guidelines required by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services." the district said in a post.

The district will close down Feb 10 - 13 as a precautionary measure, to sanitize the entire district.

The Jim Hogg County ISD Leadership Team met with Chantel Molina, JHC Emergency Management Coordinator, Jose Alejandro, Division of Emergency Management DDC 19, Lizzy Hernandez, City of Laredo Health Department, as well as Elizabeth Cuevas with the Texas Department of Health and Human Services to make decisions regarding public safety.
