CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Members of Casa de Dios do their best to make sure families here in our community do not go hungry as this coronavirus pandemic continues. However, a big change will now take affect before food pick-ups, signing up for an appointment.
“It is very important that we are able to reach our community with the food distributions that helps them to keep going in these hard times,” said pastor of Casa de Dios Fernando Ramirez.
Ramirez says volunteers with the church have seen a massive increase of families who are in need of meals.
The church feeds about 400 families who drive up for the food distributions.
“So my main priority is trying to help people, that’s our main goal is to help people in need,” said volunteer with Casa de Dios Rosie Yanez.
Members said families come from all over the South Texas community. Pastor Ramirez said switching to appointment only will help families who are in need get their meals faster.
“The lines were too long, people were there for like three hours waiting and we decided to instead of that, divide it during the week,” said Pastor Ramirez.
To make an appointment for food pick-up folks are encouraged to call (361) 462-9578. You can also email Casa de Dios at casadedioscorpuschristi@gmail.com.
“We think we’re blessing them, but in reality, they’re blessing us. Because what we’re doing, is for the community it’s not even about us it’s about going out and helping the community,” said Yanez.
The next food distribution will take place at 2341 Pearce Drive on Tuesday, January 26 at 4 p.m.
“Anybody can come through this line, anybody is welcomed,” said Yanez.
