Port Aransas welcomes anglers back

Port Aransas lifted most of its restrictions on fishing this morning.

Fishing had not been allowed since late March because of the pandemic, but as of Friday, you can fish from the shore in the ship channel, and from the jetties, but the social-distancing rules are still in effect.

People didn't waste any time throwing a line in the water.

“We figure this is the best place to self-quarantine -- out on the beach,” said Austin-area resident Nicolas Isbell.

“There is a lot of room out here, so it's easy to spread everybody out,” said David Chavez.

While people can fish again, there are still some restrictions: fishing can only take place from 6 a.m.- 8 p.m., and guided fishing trips and charters are limited to 50 percent of a vessel's capacity.
