CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Del Mar College has been providing countless opportunities for people to get back to work over the past six months.
Now, they are doing it again as the local college is hosting a medical receptionist course.
"The medical receptionist is a very important role in the medical office," said Kristina Pena, an instructor for the course.
The course is 10 weeks long, completely online and covers all the subjects needed to break through in that profession.
"They teach you office etiquette, medical ethics, how to speak with patients," said Erica Gutierrez, a student who finished the course.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Del Mar College is ensuring the safety of all their students by making the course virtual.
"There is no externship or clinical practicum that is required to go into a clinic or doctors office," said Yvette Fitzgerald, the program manager.
The medical industry is a hot market at the moment, especially here in the Coastal Bend. Del Mar College is hoping to put members of our community into those roles.
"There are a lot of medical receptionist positions available," added Fitzgerald. "The community is actively looking for people that are motivated to work from home and that have excellent communication skills."
The course is set to begin on Monday, Sept 14, providing anyone interested the entire weekend to enroll.
