Diocese of Corpus Christi Bishop Michael Mulvey announced in a statement Wednesday that Coastal Bend-area churches will reopen the weekend of May 9-10.
Mulvey said those dates particularly were chosen in order to give parishes enough time to prepare to meet safety guidelines stipulated by state and local governments.
He stressed that the reopening of churches does not signal an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that parishioners should continue to distance socially while at Mass, and properly observe safety and hygiene recommendations that have become the norm.
"Let us come together as a community and work in unity for the good of everyone," he said.
