CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Staying at home doesn't have to be boring -- you can spice up your afternoon with a local virtual cooking class.
Dine 361 a new food-oriented local publication that focuses on Corpus Christi cuisine.
Dine 361 Founder Marissa Ackerman said she noticed people wanting to do more fun things to keep them occupied while at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, so she planned virtual cooking classes.
"We're definitely not trying to make the cooking experience stressful; we're trying to make it as fun as possible, but also give them something different," she said.
Ackerman has teamed up with local chefs for this endeavor. Chef Omar Arellano (@comidaradio) will be teaching and cooking for a few of the first virtual cooking classes.
"I mean, it's all about bringing people together," he said.
The first online cooking experience will kick off at 4 p.m. Thursday. Arellano will be joined by fellow local chef Loren Estes (@loren.miche). Their first meal will be a Country Fried Tofu w/ a side of cashew mac-n-cheese.
To sign up, the process is simple: buy your ticket here, then receive a confirmation email that will provide the ingredient list. By the time the class starts, just make sure you are ready and hungry!
Each virtual cooking class is set to last about an hour.
"As long as you like to test stuff, or like to mess around with food; it's just to have fun," he said.
Dine 361 is planning a series of virtual cooking classes, but would also like to collaborate with other restaurants and chefs in the industry.
"We're also open to connecting with others," Ackerman said. "That might be a chef or a mixologist; maybe do a drink session would be cool."
