The Treasury Department and the IRS are now issuing stimulus payments with pre-paid debit cards instead of checks.

The cards will be sent to people who don't have direct deposit information on file with the IRS.

The cards will be mailed out by Metabank.

Some people nearly threw their cards away because it looked like junk mail.

The debit cards can be used for purchases online and at retailers.

They can be used to transfer funds between bank accounts, and also to get cash from the Allpoint network of ATMs.
