CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend Food Bank is holding a Fresh Produce pop-up food distribution on Friday, May 28. The event is taking place at Del Mar College's East Campus.
The event was initially planned to take place at All Saints Episcopal Church but concerns over traffic congestion prompted the last minute change.
The food giveaway starts at 11 a.m. and typically ends around 1 p.m. or until they run out of food.
500 boxes of fresh produce packed by CC Produce will be given out to those in need. It is open to the public. No appointments or registration is necessary.
Corpus Christi Police will be on hand to direct traffic.
The food bank asks recipients to drive up with empty and open trunks and to stay off of cell phones while in the distribution line.
The event is made possible through the Farmers to Families Federal Program aimed to mutually help farmers and families in need.
More events are planned over the next two weeks for other communities around the Coastal Bend.
