CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Six Points area is a noted hot spot for several good eateries. But in today's We're Open report, we learn about a unique place that's as famous for its art gallery as its delicious food.
The Nuevo Cafe, 1124 Ayers St., is a popular lunch spot for many reasons, including their great sandwiches.
But it's also the home of their famous poblano soup, voted as this year's favorite soup in the 12th annual Souper Bowl competition.
Owner Daniel Uz says the recipe came from New Mexico and it's been a huge hit here in the Coastal Bend.
"It's made from roasted poblano peppers and that's all I can give out right now," Uz said. "It's been around for awhile and it's the best soup around here. It's a secret, secret recipe. They won't let me get out here if I do that ..."
But another unique aspect of the Nuevo Cafe is their own art gallery inside the restaurant. In fact, local artists can come here and display their art and sell it on the spot."
"I love art and artist always have a different point of view so they want to show what they create," Uz said.
And Uz is also big on giving back. He recently donated food to some Corpus Christi firefighters and medical personnel at Doctors' Regional Hospital.
'We appreciate what they are doing and they got to work here and they are taking a big risk to help all of us so, thank you," Uz said.
The Nuevo Cafe is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
