CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In today's We're Open report, we highlight a restaurant that has been dishing up fresh seafood and chicken-fried streak to Coastal Benders for more than six decades.
The secret for the success of Nolan's Restaurant is quite obvious.
“Chicken-fried steaks," Nolan's co-owner Kevin Culp says. "We hand bread ‘em, you know it’s one of our best sellers ever.”
It's been a family affair.
Nolan's Restaurants have been synonymous for great chicken-fried steak and a lot more since 1953.
Nolan and Doyle Culp started dishing up delicious food from their original location on Ayers Street.
They now have three locations. Nolan Culp runs this one on South Staples.
Nolan Culp Jr. has the one in Calallen. And his brother Kevin runs the newest one in Parkdale Plaza.
And sure, there’s some family competition.
“We all want to have the best store and we all want the best compliments," Nolan Culp Jr. said. "But it’s a good healthy competition.”
And Nolan's is really trying to help out for those in the fight against COVID-19. They plan on feeding the ICU staff at Spohn Shoreline and the nurses who work In women’s services at Bay Area Hospital.
“If you need an ICU nurse or you need a woman’s nurse and they are very professional about what they do,” he said. “We are very involved with the schools, very involved police department, fire department, ambulance drivers. They are a big part of our community.”
Nolan’s is open six days a week as they are closed Sunday. And they offer curbside delivery at all three of their locations.
