CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In today’s We're Open report, we highlight a very popular south side Mexican restaurant that has been locally owned for more than four decades.

Kiko's Restaurant at 5514 Everhart Rd. has been delivering the favorites since then.

They've been serving up delicious enchiladas and fajitas, just to name a few, since their opening.

It was good to see some customers taking advantage of inside dining this morning.

Kiko and Grace Barrera opened their restaurant in 1977 and move to their current location, an old Sonic, in 1991. They sold it to their son, Marcus, a few years ago.

And Marcus admits that keeping the family legacy alive is a dream come true for him.

“I knew as a 10 or 11-year-old kid that this is what I wanted to do," Marcus Barrera said. "So, I worked weekends, summers, holidays after soccer games you name it.”

Marcus and his staff will be making a major cash donation to the Ronald McDonald House later this month.
