CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In today’s We’re Open report, we visit Howard's Bar-B-Q, a popular locally owned restaurant in the uptown area.
Howard's Bar-B-Q has been dishing up delicious grilled meats and all the fixins since 1949.
They've been at their current location at 1002 Antelope St. since 1985.
Their dining room is now open along with their usual takeout service.
But their catering business has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Still, the owners have made personal financial sacrifices to ensure their employees are taken care of.
“We made a conscious decision even though sales were not there, even though we did not have enough work for them, we still paid them their 40 hours whether they worked 26 or 30 hours," said Howard's director of catering Tom Messner. "That's the commitment we made to them because they are so important to us.”
That same commitment is seen for the community as they are big givers to many area charities and are always willing to help out anyone in need.
