CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The local music business has been hammered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In today's We're Open report, we look at a locally owned music store that is doing all it can for area musicians.
The Clawson family's talent for music runs deep.
This iconic music store, now at 2701 South Padre Island Drive, got its start thanks to Bob and Barbara Clawson back in 1963.
Their son Bubba runs it now. And they have been at their current location on SPID since 1973.
They have been fighting road construction for years. Now, it's the COVID-19 pandemic. But Bubba has adjusted well and now offers curbside service.
"I probably got who knows, 500 guitars in here," Bubba Clawson said. "Hey, I’ll take everyone out there if I have to,""
And, his plan is working. Tasha Schaded, a personal trainer, is spending her time at home playing the guitar again. So she bought one from Bubba just a few days ago.
“I know there’s a lot of musicians out there that are not getting to play," Bubba said. "But hey, if they need something, we are going to make you the best price you can get and the best discount you can possibly get.”
Clawson's Music soon will be reaching 60 years in the business. And Bubba says they are not going anywhere.
“We are a family-run business and we plan on keeping it that way," he said. "We’re not going anywhere. We are here to help customers anyway we can.”
