UPDATE 2/21:

Gov. Greg Abbott announced that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients can now use their food benefits to buy hot foods and ready-to-eat meals as Texans continue to recover from the severe winter storm.

Hot foods and ready-to-eat foods include things such as rotisserie chicken and deli foods.

Federal approval was given Sunday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service. SNAP users can buy these food items with their Lone Star Cards through the end of March.

Millions of Texans statewide lost water and electricity for consecutive days after temperatures stayed below freezing. Abbott says this extra support for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will help provide meals to families during this challenging time.
