CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The strong winds that blew in Wednesday morning across the Coastal Bend led to a terrifying experience for two workmen.

They were on a scaffold, about 15 stories up when the winds hit.

The men were working outside the old Frost Bank building on North Carancahua when the wind started tossing around their scaffold and banging it against the structure.

The fire department showed up in seconds but the work crew decided not to wait.

"The conditions were so dangerous for them that they took the equipment that they had, they broke a window out of the side of the building and accessed the interior, went inside the building that way," said Corpus Christi Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim DeVisser.

The two men were pretty shaken by the experience but were unhurt.

A couple of vehicles were damaged by falling glass and debris from the building.
