With this legislative session in Austin coming to a close next week, big changes could be coming for educators and students regarding standardized testing.

This week the State Senate passed a bill which would add significant additions to the STAAR test.

If approved by Gov. Greg Abbott, the changes would include adding a writing component of the test for third through eighth-graders. And it would add a reading assessment for kindergarteners.

Today, we’ll speak with educators and local teachers unions about the impact this could have on students, teachers and school curriculum.

We’ll have more later today on KRIS 6 News.
