CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The University of Texas A&M Corpus Christi is designating parking spots around campus for Purple Heart recipients.

With over 200 Veterans attending the Island University, veterans with the Student Veterans Organization started looking for a way to honor those who received a Purple Heart.

"They are one step away from giving everything, they've given more than the rest of us have," said Art Montiel, TAMUCC Veteran Resource Center Coordinator.

The idea was pitched to the Student Government then presented to the Islanders Front Office and it passed with flying colors.

"We don't even know how much it cost because they didn't worry about it. They just said, "we got it," said Jackson Grey, Student Veteran Organization President.

Now, Purple Heart Veterans have reserved front row parking spots in the Turtle Cove Parking Lot in front of the University Center, and at the Momentum Tennis Courts.

With Texas being a Purple Heart State and Corpus Christi a Purple Heart City, the Student Veteran Organization is making it their mission to honor all Purple Heart Veterans.

"For members of our community who may served and receive a purple heart to know when they go on campus they have a whole spot dedicated to them," said Grey.
