PORTLAND, Texas — Over the past few years, the city of Portland has grown.

With the new ExxonMobil plant alone, thousands of construction jobs have been created.

Miller Navarro saw a need for more RV parks in the area so he built one.

“We have Exxon, the steel plant in Sinton, we have a lot of pipeline going through here so it is the right thing to do at this time,” said Bridgeview on the Bay RV Park owner Miller Navarro.

Portland and the surrounding areas are experiencing an influx of jobs which has also led to new RV parks being built.

“Basically there was almost like a sure gamble when the economy is boosting up like it is.

You are almost sure that you are going to get your money back within a couple of years or so,” said Navarro.

This is just another big opportunity for economic development in this area.

“It is good for everybody, you know. There is money in these guys pockets, and they go out to eat in restaurants,

they are always asking where is a good place to eat, where is a laundromat, etc so it is good for everybody,” said Navarro.

More jobs is a positive sign for the area, and for those unconventional workers who circle the country in RVs to follow seasonal employment.

“Everybody needs a place to stay. So these guys get their per diem, and it is costing them more to stay in hotels, of course,

and they get themselves an RV and save their money and put their money in their pocket from their per diem,” said Navarro.

Changes are happening quickly here Portland, but one thing is for sure, more changes are to come.
