CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A database maintained by the Drug Enforcement Administration is being made public for the first time.

It tracks the path of every single pain pill sold in the United States -- from manufacturers and distributors to pharmacies in every town and city.

This information is essentially a roadmap which tracks every single pain pill distributed in the U.S. between 2006 and 2012.

According to the new data, in that time pharmaceutical companies distributed enough prescription pain pills to supply every adult and child in the country with 36 each year.

Today, we hope to speak to experts about the local impact of the nationwide opioid epidemic and give you a breakdown of local statistics.

We’ll have more later today on KRIS 6 News.
