NEW YORK, New York — Social media use among teens does not create a greater risk for depression.

A new study by Columbia University studied more than 74,000 teens in the eighth and 10th grades.

Researchers found that teens who use social media everyday do it to keep in touch and interact with friends.

They also found that daily social media use among teen boys can actually protect them against depression.
