The body of a missing girl in Utah was found about a quarter mile from her home.
According to KUTV, 5-year-old Elizabeth Shelley had been reported missing since Saturday.
Her 21-year-old uncle, Alex Whipple, was charged with aggravated murder, child kidnapping, two counts of obstruction of justice and abuse or desecration of a human body.
Apparently, Whipple confessed where the girl’s body was to his attorney, Shannon Demler.
Demler said he had represented Whipple’s family before and had known him most of his life. He showed Whipple all the evidence involved in the case, and Whipple confessed the whereabouts of the body.
Demler says Whipple was emotional about the incident and that Whipple doesn’t believe he had any intention of doing what he did.
“He didn’t have any reason to be involved in anything such as this,”Demler said according to KUTV.
Whipple had initially denied ever being at the Shelley house that Friday evening and officials say he changed his story several times before admitting to going there that night.
Several forms of evidence were found including scraps of the missing girls clothing and matching DNA for both the accused and the victim.
According to KUTV, court documents state that investigators found a teal skirt with white lace that appeared to be hastily buried under some dirt and bark about 50 yards away.
