Police: ‘Code word’ saves girl from abduction

Posted

SUN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. – A 10-year-old Arizona girl is safe this morning after nearly being kidnapped and it may have been one simple word that saved her life.

The girl was playing in a park in Arizona when a man drove up and told her her brother had been in a serious car accident and asked her to get inside the SUV, authorities told the media.

The girl then asked the man for the “code word,” a word given to her by her parents specifically for those situations.

The man instantly drove off, authorities said. The girl’s mother hopes this can be a lesson for other parents.

“We actually just came up with it a few months ago, so it was something real recent from a story that I read,” Brenda James said. “This one time, it saved my daughter’s life.”

Authorities are still trying to track down the man who tried to abduct the girl.
