Valero continues to challenge tax valuation

We have a 6 Investigates Follow-up tonight about the ongoing battle between Valero and the Nueces County Tax Appraiser's Office.

As we've reported, Valero sued the tax appraiser's office two years ago challenging its property tax valuation, and it looks like valero may be doing that again.

At least that's according to chief tax appraiser Ronnie Canales.

“We can only do so much,” canals said. “We try to be as fair as we can. We feel that we have a very good number for those two years. We anticipate they are probably going to so for 20(20) as well. I don't know what the value will be for the year 2020, but we are very open to where we got.”

The property taxes Valero pays goes to governmental entities and CCISD, who stand to lose a lot of revenue if Valero's property tax bill is lowered.

Adjusters with the appraiser’s office will inspect Valero next week to determine the value of the property.
