Vacuum thief caught after being identified by many

ARANSAS PASS, Texas — Aransas Pass Police department has thanked the public for helping them find a suspect caught on camera.

"Your tips poured in on this one," Aransas Pass Police said in a post.

Officials say the man in the photos was identified by many as 41-year-old Elton Echols. Echols has an "18 page RAP sheet." according to police.

The incident happened back on Sept. 11 of this year.

Echols can be seen in the Aransas Pass Walmart security footage wearing blue coveralls and a gray t--shirt entering the Walmart and walking around for a little bit. Meanwhile his accomplice was in a car parked at a nearby McDonalds. Echols walked back to his vehicle and removed his coveralls, then proceeded to go back into the Wal Mart with the woman. He took two Shark Robotic Vacuum cleaners outside an emergency exit and they left.

The total value of the stolen merchandise was $528.00. Echols is staying in Nueces County Jail and a warrant for all his charges is currently in the works. His theft charge has been enhanced from a misdemeanor to a felony.
