CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It was demo day today at the USO office on the Corpus Christi Naval Base.

USO South Texas leaders were busy knocking out walls on the second floor of the office.

That area hadn't been utilized for years so with the help of local businesses and charities, the USO will remodel all 3,700 square feet for a kid's playroom, library for student pilots and a gaming room.

USO South Texas is completely self-funded meaning they do not receive any funding from the corporate office or government.

"So for us to be able to do this remodel means that this community reached out, gave us these grants and gave us this money so we make this building happen and really improve the services that we offer to our service members.”said Sarah Banta, executive director of USO South Texas.

The USO office on NAS Corpus Christi serves 1,500 people monthly - all for free.
