CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — They were singing the praises of Texas at the County Courthouse today.
That's where the Nueces County Historical Commission hosted a “Toast to Texas.”
The event commemorated Texas Independence Day.
On this day in 1836, citizens of Texas gathered at Washington-on-Brazos where they declared their independence from Mexico and created the Republic of Texas.
Sam Houston himself, the first president of the Republic of Texas, was the guest speaker.
And yes, the event included a toast to Texas.
This is the 33rd year the Historical Commission has hosted "A Toast to Texas.”
