CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — There is a chance we could experience some icy road conditions during the next few days.

That is something we rarely have to deal with in South Texas. Texas Driving School instructor Jessica Buentello has some tips on how to deal with hazardous driving conditions.

"First things first is to always let go of the gas when you are starting to lose control," said Buentello. "You do not want to keep feeding the vehicle so it keeps going an faster, so try not to skid out and don't yank the wheel at all. Hold that wheel tight and straight and slowly apply the breaks."

Buentello also says give yourself at least a 9-second following distance cushion.

Rapid temperature drops also makes caring for your vehicle more important than ever and it all starts with your engine.

"The most important element is your engine coolant," said Access Ford Calallen Service Manager David Byrne. "You want to make sure your engine coolant is a 50/50 mix which can withstand any temperature drops you will see in our area. That will usually protect you to zero. Also, make sure your window washer fluid does not have straight water in it."

And of course, keep an eye on your tires. That's because you are going to see a drop in air pressure because of the cold temperatures.

Make sure you keep your tires properly inflate.
