ROCKPORT, Texas — It was a shining moment as shovels hit the ground in Rockport for a new housing development.

The Saltgrass Landing Apartments were destroyed by Hurricane Harvey two years ago and are being reconstructed into multi-family units.

"It's really going to be wonderful for those individuals that need affordable housing here in the Rockport and Fulton area," Brittany Eck, Director of Communications for Disaster Recovery General Land Office, says. "It's going to be really a great thing for this community and for the tourism and the economy of this area."

With funds from the Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery,Texas General Land Office allocated more than $7.5 million for the project. These units will be available for low to moderate-income families.

There will be 50 multi-family units available for rent. The General Land Office hopes to have the units available by this time next year.
