A local man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after police say he fatally struck a motorcyclist on Gollihar Road.
According to police, at 2:04 a.m. Saturday, a 59-year old man was heading down the 2500 block of Gollihar Road on a motorcycle when he was struck from behind by a 31-year old male who was driving an SUV at a high rate of speed.
The motorcycle went under the SUV and was dragged along the roadway. The SUV then flipped, hitting a home and a fence.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as Andrew Riojas.
The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. A warrant will be issued for his arrest at a later time.
