CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Suicide rates continue to rise across - and the Coastal Bend is not exempt.

That’s according to the Suicide Prevention Coalition.

This week, they hosted their annual symposium on Del Mar's east campus.

The purpose was to keep the discussion going regarding suicide prevention.

Classes involved health-care providers, law enforcement officers and other members of the community.

According to Dr. Pam Greene, awareness of available resources and empowering action are important.

"We know nationally that the rates of suicide are increasing and that's the case in Texas and in our Coastal Bend,” Greene said. “And the more we can educate our community and our providers, the better chance we have of decreasing suicide."

For those who need help, the National Suicide Prevention hotline is available 24 hours a day.
